Photizo laser therapy on a dog

Why is Veterinary Physiotherapy important?

What is Veterinary Physiotherapy?

Veterinary physiotherapy involves the use of noninvasive rehabilitative techniques, such as massage and stretching, for general maintenance and for the rehabilitation of animals after injury.  Similarly to humans, physiotherapy for dogs and horses consists of a variety of specialised therapies intended to aid in injury recovery, chronic condition management, and the preservation of optimal physical function. In order to establish a prognosis and treatment plan, individual animals are examined and assessed using a range of methods for the overall enhancement of recovery, whilst increasing mobility and improving performance.

Common conditions that will benefit from physiotherapy:

- Hip / Elbow dysplasia

- Joint issues

- Back, neck and/or pelvic pain

- Tendon and ligament injuries

- Osteoarthritis (OA)

- IVDD

- Neurological disorders

- Kissing spines

- Sacroiliac joint (SIJ) pain

Why is Veterinary Physiotherapy important?

Veterinary physiotherapy provides numerous benefits, such as pain management, improved joint health, increased mobility, and a faster recovery after surgery or injury. For animals with a variety of chronic diseases, it also helps with weight management and enhances overall quality of life. Depending on the demands and condition of your dog or horse, the frequency of physiotherapy treatments may change. Sessions typically last anywhere from once a month to multiple times a week until the intended results are achieved.

Physiotherapy might be advantageous for your pet if they:

- Struggle with reduced/limited mobility

- Are experiencing spinal pain

- Has had recent surgery to a damaged or injured limb

- Suffers from elbow/hip dysplasia or arthritis

- Experiences muscle spasms or muscle tightness

- Has damaged nerves or ligaments

PLEASE ENSURE A VETERINARY CONSENT FORM IS COMPLETED PRIOR TO ANY PHYSIOTHERAPY SESSION
